The state of the economy and what president obama won't say

Amazingly, President Obama tells us the economy is showing signs of recovery because we are losing jobs at half the rate than when he first took office. Somehow this should be interpreted as good news and we should all rejoice as the shepherds did upon receiving the message from the host of angels of the impending birth of the baby Jesus.

One such indicator pointed out by the president, is the rise of the stock market in recent days. On August 7^th, CNN reported The Dow gaining 114 points, S&P 500 index rising 13 points and The Nasdaq up 27 points, which is a nine month high. Does this really deserve a fat presidential pat on the back? I think not. Not when we really examine the facts, something the president and his slight of hand stage crew led by Rahm Emanuel are betting most U.S. citizens will not do.

Since this economic downturn, (a depression to millions of U.S. citizens) companies have been closing doors, furloughing workers, laying off massive amounts of employees, not replacing machines that break down and cutting back in general to save money. The long term effect shows on the books as each company making a profit. Basically, showing a profit from the demise of the workforce. Not really a profit in the traditional sense and raising the stock market numbers. A house built on sand. False hope.

Private business alone has shown that its incapable of truly supporting an economy since the basic premise of corporations today are laid on a foundation of greed, of tapping out as much sap from the population to feed the upper most ten percent. So, here comes the government to the rescue, with a trillion dollars to bail out private business. Our dollars, and yet there is talk on the wire of another rescue/bailout. An economy cannot rise with an out of work population, which is in essence what the president is attempting to convince us he can do.

So, how does this place us within the scale of the global economy? Many in the Russian population feel the U.S. is responsible for their poor economic situation. I’m not sure if the Russians bought into the mortgage loan bundles being sold all over the world until the real estate bubble burst here, (Russian politicians refusing to shake president Obama’s hand) which would have been their poor choice of investment. At any rate, with its citizens unemployed there are less U.S. dollars being spent. And spending is the backbone of the U.S. economy. So how can Mr. Obama really bring about a recovery with an unemployed population?

Which brings us to China. The Chinese economy is an export economy, and relies heavily on the buying power of the U.S.(their population cannot afford to buy its products.) Since the U.S. has lost so many jobs (Western Europe and Canada included) it’s citizens are not spending and killing the Chinese economy. China’s government is injecting massive amounts of cash into its banks and essentially propping up it’s economy and the affect is China is sky rocketing at the stock markets. But, can China sustain upward stock market mobility? What happens when their export bubble burst? A tsunami?

Blocked.  Writers block I suppose would be the term associated with this mental constipation I have been suffering. No amount of fiber can cause a release of this awful stoppage plaguing me at this time. It seems that there is so much to write about, but no word come to fruition to accomplish a decent post. I’ve considered my back up to be due to the lack of televised news in my mental diet now, but not so, since I’ve dabbled a little in radio news. Maybe it’s the lack of real news that’s the culprit.

Maybe this mental constipation is due in part to the constant beating we take daily by the news on president Obama’s healthcare initiative’s journey through congress. No wonder the journey is so long, there are five different bills floating around with thousands of pages that no congress person or senator is really reading. They’re just sitting on the talking head’s shows and pontificating on things they’ve been told and not because they’ve actually read it for themselves. Has anyone really asked why president Obama is forcing the government backed healthcare bill, rather than seeking to put doctors back in charge of healthcare instead of insurance magnates? Is he letting us know he will not be creating jobs in the future? With good jobs, comes good healthcare. With doctors in charge, regulations on insurance companies, comes affordable healthcare.

What if the prognosis of my mental blockage is caused by this false since of change the president is putting on? For the first time ever a Supreme Court justice was not sworn in at the white house. Newly sworn in Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer  took the oath at the Supreme Court without the presence of the president, but with news cameras present for the first time. President Obama suggested the swearing in at the Supreme Court to symbolize the autonomy of the court. Yes, only a symbol. In this case the symbol is only a superficial show piece and not deep rooted change. So much for a change you can believe in. Aw shoot, let me be real, I’ve never believed the man anyway

Could it be that I’m just suffering from an internal fear of the swine flu? Oops, I mean H1N1, posted up in the back ground waiting for temperatures to drop so it can move in for the attack. At least that’s how the main stream news media is campaigning for the pharmaceutical companies. Watchout, its going to be worse than ever. All the major drug companies are racing for a vaccine, just in time for this fall. Its up to you if you want to take their poison, I certainly won’t be taking it. But, I may need something because my cerebral bowels could be suffering from oh so much verbal crapola being beamed into my psyche. I’ve work hard to avoid it but it just keeps seeping in.

Oh my aching head! Is there something I can take? Is there a flush for writers block caused by news Scrapple? Should I just wait it out and maybe something real will loosen up the mental bowels? Will Senna help mental constipation? Any suggestions?

HABESHA On Black In America 2

HABESHA is a community based organization in the city of Atlanta, founded in 2002 by Cashwan Meyers. Their focus is on the uplift of the youth in the City of Atlana based in the Mechanicsville area. HABESHA will be featured on Black In America 2 later this month on the topic of urban gardening. I, like one of the commenter’s on this blog, am a bit skeptical of the purpose of the Black In America series, however I have admired the work of HABESHA in Atlanta.

Reflections on the July 4th

"Israeli Navy detained former US congresswoman and Nobel Prize laureate Cynthia McKinney and twenty other human rights activists on board a relief boat outside Israel's territorial waters on Tuesday as they were heading to Gaza on a humanitarian mission" 

For me, a Black man in the United States, there is nothing to celebrate and be thankful for because it’s the 4^th of July or Independence Day. The Stars and Stripes flew over the slave plantations, not withstanding being a symbol of downpression for people of color that were free in those days, where laws could be enacted to crush them in the fledgling United States at any time, to reign in the uppity “Negras” whenever whites felt threatened.

Voices that recount this history are being muted by the false pretense of a post racial society, carried out by our “educated” youth. Never mind our children have not really been educated in decades, only taught to “parrot” the information pitched to them in their classrooms. Gone are the days when a teacher would stand up and say “I don’t believe you are learning anything if you don’t challenge what I am saying up here.”

I remember a time when men and women, mostly of my father’s generation, would walk about proudly hoisting up Old Glory, because they lived most of their lives during the Jim Crow era and felt entitled to do so since the sacrifices they made to participate in this American experiment could have cost them their lives.

Today, I have been to international events where Black youth raise up Old Glory or the Union Jack as if these are the standards that have set them free, never realizing the domestic and imperialistic pressures these two flags symbolize. Just proud to be an American or Brit and never really knowing why they feel the way they do.

As former congress woman of Georgia, Cynthia McKinney sits in an Israeli jail, these young hoisters of the Stars and Stripes are silent. Cynthia McKinney is a non image in their heads being pushed out by images of Drake, Soldier Boy or Beyounce coursing over the synapses of their dependent minds. Minds dependent upon marketing to tell them what to think, what to wear or who to support. Speaking of such, President Obama, the progenitor of this new post racial America, smiles and speaks with a forked tongue of the recession slowing, and in the next breath saying unemployment will probably reach ten percent by next year. Yet, stands quiet on the imprisonment of a former congress woman and candidate for president of the United States.

So, I hope the American people enjoyed their hot dogs, hamburgers and ribs. Danced, sang and drank in the worship of the false belief that America is free from mother England and ignore former congress woman McKinney who’s operating on the true principles of freedom and helping others when they are in distress. Israel can run amuck as they will, ignore international law, and crush other human life and not a word from the supreme leader of a post racial United States.
